Solan

Solan is a city in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and the district headquarters of Solan district.Solan is a small little hill town located on the foothills of Himalayas at an elevation of about 1600 metres in the enchanting North Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Extensive mushroom farming, aptly nicknames this little town as the ‘Mushroom City of India’. Well that is not all! Solan is also the largest producer of tomatoes in the country and that is the reason it is also popularly called the ‘City of Red Gold’. The city is situated between Chandigarh (joint capital of Punjab and Haryana) and Shimla (state capital) on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway-5. The narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla railway passes through Solan. Located on the Punjab-Himachal Border, Solan is nestled in the Shivalik hills of the Himalayas. Captivating scenic beauty dotted with snow-capped hills, lush meadows, fascinating forest trails and expansive mushroom plantations is what makes this tiny hamlet a delight for nature lovers and soul seekers alike. By Flight

The nearest airport to reach Solan is Shimla which is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Located around 45kms away from the city, the distance can be covered by cabs and taxis which are easily available from Shimla airport. Another alternative to reach Solan by flight is to de-board at Chandigarh from where it is a distance of approx. 40kms to reach the city.

By Road

Solan is well-connected by roads as well. The HRTC buses connects Solan from the major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. Another alternative one can take while planning to travel by road is taking a car and driving down to the city which is quite spectacular and a exquisite journey.

By train

The nearest railway station to reach Solan is in Kalka which is located at a distance of 40kms from Solan. Solan also has its own railway station which connects the city to other major cities. The Himalayan Queen is well connected to the city from Delhi. Local cabs are avialable at the Shimla station for travel to Solan.
