Darjeeling are always crowded with tourists round the year.The lesser popular tourist place similar to Darjeeling is Takdah which is 35Kms/ 01 and a half hour from Darjeeling. Takdah has lovely mountains & scenic views, the tea gardens, blooming orchids, the walking trails through the coniferous forests on mountain slopes. Not many know about this small hamlet, a treasure secret, because it's yet to develop as a full fledged tourism place. Takdah is located at an altitude of about 4,000 ft and close to Darjeeling (about 35kms away), yet far enough to be isolated, quiet and serene. Although the altitude is much lower than Darjeeling town, the place is cooler compared to its surrounding area.
The nearest airport to Takdah is Bagdogra which is approximately 95 km away from the city. There are some direct flights from the major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, and Guwahati to Bagdogra. From the airport, one can reach the city by hiring taxis. It will take almost 3 hours to reach Darjeeling from the airport.
Takdah is well connected to some of the major cities close by such as Gangtok and Kalimpong which are located at a distance of 100 km and 51 kms respectively. The city is also connected with Kolkata which is 651 km away and it takes around 14 hours to reach here. The regular bus service from Siliguri (which is approximately 70 kilometres away) to Darjeeling is quite slow but economical. Similar bus services are also available from neighbouring towns like Kurseong and Kalimpong which is 31 and 50 Kms away respectively. Even Gangtok city runs daily buses to Darjeeling. However from the benefit of the tourists pre booking a cab or shared cab is always advisable.
The nearest railway station to Takdah is New Jalpaiguri which connects the city with all the major parts of the country. There are a number of trains from cities like Kolkata, New Delhi, Guwahati, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, and Kochi. People can hire private cabs from the station to reach Takdah.
