Kanatal is located in the picturesque settings of the Garhwal Himalayas, surrounded by the Sen kissed peaks and the velvety coniferous trees, Kanatal is still unexplored. It is a small village and a hill station in Uttarakhand. The history of Kanatal dates backs to few decades when a small lake known as "Taal" had dried up. When it dried up, the local people began to call it as " Kaana Taal ". In hindi the word Kaana usually refer to as dry well. During summer, the temperature range from 10 to 20 degrees, celsius. Due to high altitude Kanatal experience heavy snowfall resulted in road blocks. Surkanda Devi is a temple dedicated to Sati. Sukanda is where the head of Sati had fall after Shiva carried her on his Trishool after she set herself fire. Tourists visits this temple to witness its architectural beauty and located at a altitude of approx. 2700 meter. The temple is 8 km on the road to Mussoorie to Kaddukhal. Toursists also visits places like Tehri Dam, Kodia Jungle, Mussoorie, Chamba, Shivpuri and Sun Set point.
Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun Airport ) is the nearest Airport to Kanatal situated 90 kms from Kanatal about 3 hours from here. Airport is well connected to Delhi and also there are a number of cabs available for Mussoorie and Kanatal.
